We are well and truly in winter with snow on the mountain and freezing nights ... the good news - the days have been gorgeous with wonderful blue skies and sun, even though cool.

You can forgive all as long as there is sun and the sitting room at the rear of the cottage is the perfect place to sit and lap it all up. For those who have stayed with us before we have added another couch out there to curl up on, redone all the floors and a gorgeous new rug to keep all warm and snuggly.

The outside of the cottage has had a new lick of paint and lots of other small changes, always trying to add new and improved features to the cottage. We now have a Nespresso coffee maker for all those coffee lovers, as well as our usual range of gourmet teas, hot chocolate, etc., as well as an iPod dock. Changes in the garden too with new roses, a gorgeous new magnolia and lots of new veggies planted for the coming winter.

Winter events are about to launch with the wonderful Festival of Voices, full of singing and a big bonfire and of course, all are flocking to Mona, our new gallery down here, which is free to enter. $15 will get you there and back on a ferry from the docks so what could be easier.

D&R

Christmas has come and gone at the cottage with lots of people staying with us over the school holiday period. Even though the weather has been somewhat mixed the back garden takes all opportunities to provide sunny nooks when it appears. The veggie garden is thriving with tomatoes covered in fruit, rhubarb, silver beet zucchini, lettuce and loads of herbs which everyone enjoys using.

The Taste was a great success this year with its updated venue, the opening of Mona. Mona Foma concerts and artworks and extravaganzas, the Falls Festival, concerts in the parks, marathons, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race and much much more. To come are the Wooden Boat Festival and Ten Days on the Island from 25th March to 3rd April and Festivale (in Launceston), the Glover Art Prize (in Evandale) and so much more. Autumn really is the most beautiful and settled weather down here so we will look forward to you coming to stay with us.

D&R

The garden is looking glorious with the crab apples and clematis in full blossom and roses starting to bud. The veggie garden is heavy with broad beans, rhubarb sprouting, artichokes and tomatoes can now be sewn as Hobart Showday has come and gone and the dreaded frosts abated. Everything is lush and green and Hobart looks a picture with chestnut trees in flower and the water sparkling and beckoning now that the warmer weather has arrived with daylight saving. We’ve had lots of visitors to the cottage over the past few months and bookings flowing through for the coming months.
Christmas brings the advent of a wonderful time down here, both north and south, with so many things to do.
*Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race
*Taste of Tasmania - 27th December to 2nd January
*Wooden Boat Festival - 11th - 14th February
*Moorilla Hobart International Tennis - 7th-15th January
*Opening of David Walsh’s much awaited Mona Foma Museum & Art Gallery - 14th - 23rd January
*Falls Festival - 29th January - 1st January
*Hobart Collectors’ Antiques Fair - 29th December - 2nd January
*Ten Days on the Island - a festival of contemporary events, including plays, music and art installations - 25th March - 3rd April
and this is just a taste of a multitude of events!
We look forward to welcoming you all as guests at Hobart Cottage - we know you will enjoy your stay with us.

D&R

Our days are starting to lengthen out and the sun higher in the sky (at last - hooray!). We have finally had some rain and the garden will repay us back threefold in the warmer Spring weather. Bulbs are well and truly showing, evergreen clematis, crocus, daffodils, jonquills, violets and hellibore abound as well as sweet-scented daphnes. Roses are starting to show signs of budding again. Broad beans, spring onions, silverbeet and soft-leafed lettuce are thriving in the veggie garden, with new herbs to soon be planted out.
Glorious sunny days, although icy cold in the mornings and evenings - sitting out on the rear deck with freshly brewed coffee and the sun streaming in but with snow on the mountain. What a wonderful paradox! We have stocked the cottage with beautiful T2 teas, hot chocolate and milo for you to enjoy.
The rivulet walk at the rear of the cottage is starting to wake up from its winter sleep with the sun shining through and birds abounding. The history of the walk is worth reading up on before you take a stroll and the gardens attached to the Brewery really worth a look.
For weekend visitors a visit to the Farmers Market in the Melville Street is a must where you can purchase beautifully grown and made
produce to enjoy.

D&R

Our renovations are now complete with gorgeous new bathroom in place. Featuring a heated floor and full walk-in shower, it’s the perfect place to clean up, recharge and prepare for a busy day in Hobart.
For those of you who have been previous guests - yes the red taps and shower base are now sadly gone and the bathroom is light and luxurious with lovely locally made soaps.
The garden is truly in it’s winter coat with violets and helibores starting to show themselves and bulbs just breaking through. The winter sunsets have been just beautiful with icy cold mornings and evenings and the occasional sprinkling of snow on the mountain.
Remember to bring your winter woolies to Hobart.
D&R
